You killed the internet

With respects to hotlinking, I discourage it and I really don’t like it. Mostly because I come from the age of when bandwidth wasn’t cheap (to me anyway) and hotlinking from someone who made a really good free site usually killed their site (geocities anyone?). I also fear for the people who don’t take the extra 2 seconds to credit (it’s a bad habit, it really is).
My best practices for sharing:
-ASK THEM.
And tell them/give them a link to where you are posting it if they let you repost it on your site. I absolutely appreciate people who ask, even if I sadly say no to them. At least they did.
-Just post a link to the article/page as opposed to a direct link to the file and/or image
I read one comment that said something along the lines of (paraphrasing here) “who wants to see a site full of links?” Eh, check out Google? And what’s wrong with just posting a link? Takes you like…..2 seconds?
-ALWAYS give credit where it is due.
If you must copy, reupload the whole thing, image and all, credit where you got it from. Respect the people who took the time to put up all that awesome stuff that you stumbled upon.
End of the day, ask, give credit and don’t kill the internets.
That is all.
I know my opinion is one-sided, but that’s how I feel
